How does CausePick choose the 3 organizations sent to me every month?

We developed a unique algorithm that takes into account your preferred causes and the history of your picks. We also check out what’s trending within the CausePick community. Based on these factors, we choose 3 organizations to send you every month. Then you pick the one that receives your tax deductible contribution!

What if I do not like any of the 3 organizations that were sent to me this month?

You can always click to see more than the top 3 nonprofits for that month and pick a different organization that speaks to you. You can also go into your preferences and change the types of causes you care about and our system will recalculate the best picks for you. If you aren’t able to find an organization that you want to support, please contact us at We would love to hear how we can save you time and make it easy on you to find organizations you’d love to support.

What if I forgot to make my choice this month?

Each month when we send you 3 organizations, you will have 7 days to pick which one receives your contribution. If you do not make your pick after 7 days, we take a look at the 3 organizations we offered you and see which one received the most support from other CausePick community members that month and automatically send your donation to them. Your contribution still gets made to a nonprofit that matches your preferences and you’ll still feel good about supporting a cause you care about.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes, 100% of your donation is tax deductible and we do not take any fees. We partnered with the Fund More Good Foundation (EIN# 47-4096632) to process your donations and provide you with a tax deduction (in the US only) for your contribution each month. You will get a receipt after each donation is processed, and one receipt at the end of the year for all the contributions you made. Simple, right?

I work with and/or love a nonprofit. How can I recommend it for CausePick?

Absolutely! We would love to hear about the nonprofit organizations that you think we should offer on CausePick. We will happily do the research to make sure the organization meets our checklist. All you have to do is point us in the right direction. Simply contact us using the contact form on this page or email us at

How does CausePick vet organizations?

We take vetting very seriously. Our mission is your trust that when you pick an organization on CausePick, you are picking a nonprofit in good 501c3 status working to better the United States and the world.

Our Checklist for Nonprofit Organizations

  1. We make sure the nonprofit is a charitable organization. We check the GuideStar Profile to make sure the organization is a 501c3 in good standing.
  2. We check in with the IRS! All 501c3 corporations are required to file a form 990 every tax year. From this form we can find out how a nonprofit spends their money.
  3. We find out where the organization is located. Right now, we only host U.S. based organizations, even if they help causes overseas. This way we can track how their money is being spent to know your money is going to a reputable cause.
  4. We look at an organization’s Charity Navigator rating. If an organization is seven years old, we make sure it has a minimum of three out of four stars to put it on our platform.
  5. We take a peek at an organization’s GuideStar profile. We want to see lots of data about an organization, and this is where we can find it all in one place.
  6. On, we are able to review public comments about many  different organizations to help ensure that nonprofits with excessive negative feedback don’t make the CausePick cut.
  7. Nonprofits are businesses! So we check the Better Business Bureau. We look to see that those who are registered with the  BBB are in good standing.
  8. We only host organizations that are at least two years old. This way, we are able to check their IRS filings, and make sure they have raised at least $250,000 to spend on their cause. An organization that hasn’t raised any money for their cause can’t do a great job at doing more good.

How are the organizations offered on CausePick selected?

CausePick founders have a selection committee to choose the nonprofit organizations that come onto our platform. In addition to our own research, we recruit friends and colleagues who work in the social good space to recommend orgs to us. We also follow multiple news sources and nonprofit working groups to tell us about innovative organizations doing impactful work. Right now, almost all the organizations on our platform are small, lesser-known nonprofits that have an operating budget of $10 million or less annually. Every organization on CausePick must meet the following criteria to be considered for our platform:

  • Working for and within communities to solve problems and implement long-term, sustainable solutions
  • Providing innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing problems
  • Tackling the root causes of a challenge, not merely addressing its overt symptoms
  • Are entirely funded through private and public contributions and meet the ethical and legal guidelines for non-profit status

We also take recommendations for nonprofits from users! If you have a cause to share with us, please email us at We then run them all through our vetting process before putting them on our platform.

When does my money go to the organization I picked?

At the end of every month we tabulate all the donations that each nonprofit organization received through CausePick. Whether it was a single donation or one thousand we send a check to the organization by the 5th of the month.

What fees are involved with my donation?

We do not take any fees from donors.  However, there is a small transaction fee that pays for the secure payment processing company, Stripe (the system we use to process credit cards). The fee is 2.9% + 30 cents per donation.

How does CausePick make a profit?

CausePick is a volunteer-run organization and our founders are paying our bills. As CausePick launches, we are in the process of determining the best structure for our organization and how we can build a sustainable business model. We are currently operating as a corporation partnered with a 501c3 organization as our fiscal sponsor. As CausePick grows, we will make sure that our community knows how and why our organization is transforming.
